Infocom 2005 begins in Kolkata

West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi inaugurated the fair.
"ICT is not a matter of romanticism," Gandhi said requesting India's ICT companies to expand their periphery to lead the global market in future.
Enthusiastic people, particularly students and IT professionals, are visiting the fair to meet their thrust for the latest technologies and world-class brands.
Manabendra Mukherjee, IT and Environment minister of the West Bengal, said the West Bengal would be the future ICT hub of the country.
He expressed his satisfaction for the participation of Bangladesh in the fair.
Kiran Karnik, President of NASSCOM, Aniruddha Lahiri, Managing Director of ABP Pvt. Ltd, also spoke on the occasion.
A total of 18 countries including Bangladesh have been participating in the largest ICT event comprising conferences and exhibitions.
Bangladesh delegation organised a session on "Knowledge Process Outsourcing" on Thursday in the sideline of the fair.
In the Bangladesh Block, 12 ICT organisations, including Insoft, Reve Systems, Systech Digital, Quyyum Digital Library, Xways Soft, Aim in Life and Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS), are showcasing their technologies as well as services.
The companies are displaying their latest ICT enabled services, including software and animations.
Shoeb Chowdhury, CEO of Information Handling Services (IHS) and Insoft said Bangladesh would successfully display its ICT services before the participant-countries of Europe, America and Africa.
The international event is to integrate the disparate hardware, software, education and telecom segments into a unified platform that covers ICT at a broader level.
The five-day event organised by India's business magazine Businessworld and NASSCOM would conclude on December 11.
