Govt's dialogue initiative simply a farce: BDB

The government's so-called initiative to engage political parties and civil society in dialogue to resist militants is simply a farce, said Joint Secretary General of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Feroz M Hassan yesterday.

In a statement, he said BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan's recent comment about BDB demonstrates how much the government is sincere in involving the political parties in the proposed dialogue.

"Is Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh a political party?" Mannan Bhuiyan posed a question at a press briefing on December 8 when journalists wanted to know whether the government would send invitation letters to the BDB for the dialogue in the wake of increasing militant attacks.

"BDB is not only a legitimate political party but it has also one of its members sitting in the same parliament in which Mannan Bhuiyan sits," Firoz asserted.

The question of the BNP Secretary General has again proved that all attacks on the BDB were carried out at the instructions of the BNP high command, he added.

Firoz also expressed grave concern over the chaotic and panicky situation prevailing in the country following repeated bomb attacks.
