Cop dies at CMCH

The dead identified as Abdul Awal, 50, of Chandraganj in Laxmipur district, was a constable of Pahartali Police Station.

"My husband returned home early yesterday finishing his night duty and felt pain in chest at noon," Fazilatun Nesa, wife of the victim, told this correspondent at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in the afternoon standing beside Awal's body.

She said Awal along with my son Sayem immediately went to the Dampara Police Line Hospital where the authorities without giving primary treatment referred him to the CMCH.

"They (police line hospital) even refused to provide any ambulance facility to my husband whose condition was deteriorating fast with the passing of time," Fazilatun alleged.

She said my son hired a CNG auto-rickshaw and took Awal to the CMCH at around 12:30pm. And even the on-duty doctor at the emergency ward dilly-dallied to see him and at 1:00pm my husband breathed his last.

The on duty doctor was not available comment when this correspondent went to the emergency at 5:00pm.

However, when contacted, the on duty police staff Majid at the emergency denied all the allegations and claimed that he took Awal, after knowing his identity, to the cardiology department but he died in no time.
