Resist fundamentalist forces
On the occasion of the 15th death anniversary of Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, Dr Milan Sangsad organised the meeting at TSC Road Island.
They said though the death of Dr Milon brought democracy in the country, imperialism and capitalism created an obstacle to bringing change to the fate of mass people.
They also demanded of the government to name a street after Dr Milan and declare November 27 as Dr Milan Day to pay homage to the great soul.
Dhaka City Corporation Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka said Dr Milon Chattar will be constructed in front of the Teachers-Students Centre (TSC) on the Dhaka University campus.
He said it is important to construct the Dr Milan Chattar where he sacrificed his life to establish democracy ending the autocratic rule of the then President HM Ershad.
Presided over by Prof Serajul Islam Chowdhury the meeting was also addressed by mother of Shaheed Dr Milan Selina Aktar, Awami League Presidium Member Tofail Ahmed and Jatiya Shamajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haque Inu.
"Though the autocratic government was ousted and a democratic government established, but the democracy is yet to get institutional shape in the country," Khoka said. He said the militant force has risen and a united movement irrespective of party affiliation is a must to resist them. He called upon all political parties to start a dialogue on the issue in this regard.
General Secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Mujahidul Islam Selim said Dr Milon was a combatant of democracy and scientific socialism. He was an extra ordinary organiser and possessed a vision in organising the movement of doctors and preparing pro-people health regulation.
Tofael said "The government should take necessary steps immediately to resist the communal force. It is the time to be united to resist the fanatic forces with the spirit of liberation war and it will be the best way to show respect to Shaheed Dr Milan," he said.
Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof S M A Fayz, Secretary General of Bangladesh Medical Association A Z M Zahid Hossain, Cultural activist Foyz Ahmed, former Dacsu General Secretary Dr Mushtak Hossain were also present.
