JU academic council meet postponed

The decision to postpone the meeting came after assistant Prof Golam Mustafa began fast unto death at 10:00am at the administrative building demanding academic council's approval of the research paper submitted for his PhD degree. A significant number of students of the department thronged there to accompany their teacher. Later, Prof Mustafa broke his fast at around 2:00pm when Pro-VC Prof Enamul Huq Khan requested him after the decision of the postponement came.

The university authorities, however, claimed to have postponed the meeting due to the admission test scheduled to begin from November 30.

The university authorities on Thursday dropped the 10th no agenda of the meeting regarding his research paper, which was supposed to be discussed in the meeting, following a request from the higher examination committee (HEC) of Bangla department. The HEC made the request after Examination Office (EO) in a letter to the committee mentioned that an additional approval of HEC is required for the report to be approved as it was examined by an external professor, who was selected without any approval of HEC.

Though the examination office, earlier, allowed the research paper to be included in the agenda of academic council meeting without any objections, it suddenly found the research paper was not prepared in proper procedure.

"It was dropped due to mean political interest of some teachers and intra-departmental conflict," said Mustafa.

"A meeting has been convened today to look into the issue," said assistant Prof Anirodhya Kahali, member of HEC.

"The research paper was not completed through proper procedure," said Prof Mirza Mofizuddin, director of examination office.

Asst Prof Mustafa has been conducting research for nine and half years on the subject titled "Literature of Akhtaruzzaman Ilias: Life and Society" and submitted the completed report two months ago which immediately received the approval of vice chancellor. He also appeared in viva-voce examination two-month ago without any complication.
