Fall of govt a matter of time

They said November 22 grand rally in the capital has shaken the coalition government which has now expressed its willingness to sit for a dialogue with the oppositions.

The central leaders were addressing the inaugural session of the first triennial conference of Sylhet city Awami League at Hafiz Complex in the afternoon.

Sylhet city AL Chief and city Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran was in the chair.

Speaking as chief guest Abdur Razzaque MP said the government is now adopting new tactics in the name of dialogue.

He said the demand for proposed reforms of the EC and caretaker government must be accepted first before any dialogue.

He also demanded removal of sitting and partisan chief election commissioner (CEC) to ensure fair polls.

Razzaque said the 4-year rule of the present government is a total failure.

He said the fundamentalist groups with the help of the government have made the country a nation of bombers.

There is no doubt that the government itself is behind the August 17 series of bomb blast across the country, he alleged.

Presidium member Suranjit Sengupta MP called for sinking all petty differences to forge a greater unity to topple the government.

He said the fall of alliance government is just a matter of time.

AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil said the people had said 'No' to the government from the grand rally of November 22.

"We would hold such rallies in other divisional headquarters soon," he added.

Jalil said before sitting for a dialogue, all the detenues must be freed and a congenial atmosphere will have to be created.

Laying emphasis on unity he said an organised workforce is a major tool for winning the battle against the misrule of the ruling alliance.

The conference was also addressed by party's presidium member Dewan Farid Gazi MP, advisory body member AMAMuhit, Sylhet district AL President ANM Shafique and General Secretary Iftekhar Hossain Shamim, central Organising Secretaries Abdur Rahman and Sultan Mohammad Mansur and Moulvibazar district AL President Syed Mohsin Ali.

The meeting was conducted by Sylhet city unit General Secretary Misbahuddin Ahmed Siraj.
