Khaleda keen to work with Merkel to strengthen ties

In a message Khaleda Zia said, "I have great pleasure in extending my warm congratulations and felicitations on the victory of the Christian Democratic Union under you every successful leadership in the federal elections held on September 18, 2005 and your election as the new chancellor of Germany."

Khaleda also said, "Bangladesh and Germany have traditionally enjoyed close and friendly bilateral relations and cooperation. I look forward to working closely with you to further enhance and enlarge the deep-rooted relations that exist between our two countries and peoples and to uphold our shared commitment to the principal of peace, development and democracy.
