‘Pay bonus to garments workers before Eid’

Karmojibi Nari, a forum for working women, on Monday demanded effective steps to bring down the prices of essentials and pay salary and bonus to garments workers before the Eid.

At a rally at Muktangan, the women leaders also called for taking precautionary measures to check launch and bus accidents ahead of Eid holidays.

Terming the skyrocketing prices of essentials a great crisis, they said the low-income people are the worst sufferers and near-famine situation has been prevailing in different parts of the country.

Even a girl of Bhairab in Kishoreganj has committed suicide due to lack of food, they added.

Stockpiling of foods, corruption and lack of accountability of the department concerned are mainly responsible for the instability in the market, they pointed out.

The leaders also urged the owners of the garments factories to pay bonus and salary to the workers at least a week before the Eid.

Rokeya Rafiq Baby, Mahmuda Imam, Arifa Akhtar Anu, Quazi Siddikur Rahman, Rokeya Sultana and Firoza Begum spoke at the rally.
