47 EWU students receive scholarships

The Merit Award Scholarship Ceremony of East West University (EWU) for Fall Semester was held at its auditorium in the city on Saturday, says a press release.

A total of 31 students received full tuition merit scholarships, 14 Medha Lalon Fund scholarships and two others scholarship for securing top positions in the admission test.

Jalaluddin Ahmed, director of South-South Centre, former secretary and advisor to ILO and UNFPA, and a member of the Board of Directors of EWU, attended the function as chief guest.

He distributed certificates among the recipients and lauded the university authorities for nurturing the needs of middle-class meritorious students through its need-based financial schemes.

Dr Mohammad Farashuddin, founder vice-chancellor and president of the Board of Directors, urged the meritorious students to shoulder the responsibility in their respective areas for the sake of national interest.

Dr Mohammed Musa, pro-vice-chancellor and Firdaus Ali, registrar, also spoke on the occasion.

A total of 800 students received Tk 2.60 crore in the form of merit scholarships and other forms of need-based financial assistance in 2005, the release added.
