LGED engr, two others killed in road accidents

Three people, including an LGED engineer, were killed in separate road accidents in Kishoreganj and Bogra yesterday.

Mohammad Shahidul Hoque, project director of LGED, was killed in a road accident yesterday while he was travelling on an official trip from Dhaka to Kishoreganj, says a press release.

He was 47.

Engineer Haque hailed from Akanda Para of Homna upazila in Comilla.

On his way to Kishorganj, he was critically injured when his official transport met an accident. He was immediately rushed to Bajitpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

His namaj-e-janaza was held at LGED Bhaban in Dhaka yesterday after Magrib prayers. Officers and employees of LGED, including Chief Engineer Md Shahidul Hassan, attended the janaza and prayed for the peace and salvation of the departed soul.

Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Ziaul Haque Zia, state minister for LGRD & Cooperatives and A H M Abul Qasem, secretary, Local Government Division, expressed condolence and sympathy to the members of the bereaved family of Engineer Haque.

Our Bogra correspondent adds:

A motorbike rider and a van puller were killed when a bus ran over them in Bogra yesterday morning.

A bus slammed Monju Sarker at the Rangpur-Dhaka highway when he was returning on a motorbike from his in-laws' house at Telihara, witnesses said. He died on the spot.

Van Puller Jalal Uddin, 25, succumbed to his injuries after he was taken to Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogra in a critical condition.

Witnesses said the bus was heading towards Bogra from Sonatola.
