'Land registration system very complicated'

They urged the government to simplify the land registration and procurement laws so that the people do not fall victim to village touts.

The speakers emphasised awareness programme for the common people through mass media regarding land registration laws. The government recently brought some amendments to the land registration laws but most of the people are not getting its benefit due to their ignorance of the law, they said.

Bangladesh Jobo Ainjibi Parishad organsied the roundtable at the Jatiya Press Club.

Law Minister Moudud Ahmed and State Minister for Land Ukil Abdus Sattar were present as chief and special guests at the discussion.

Advocate Abdullah Al Mamun, Habibul Bashar, Hadiul Islam, Jahangir Alam Khan, Shamsul Alam and Advocate Sheikh Mohammad Azad took part in the discussion.

The speakers said the villagers are the worst victims of complicated land registration system. As they have no knowledge about the related laws, the village touts take the chance of cheating them through making fake documents.

They said most of the parliament members hardly take any interest while a law is enacted in the House. They just give their consent without knowing the details of the law, they said. As a result, many laws become unpopular and people show reluctance in abiding those, they added.
