Govt to introduce allowance for the disabled
Under the programme, which is to kick off in the current fiscal, some 1.4 lakh insolvent disabled people will receive Tk 200 each per month. The government also has a plan to extend the programme.
Social Welfare Minister Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid said this at a press conference at the PIB yesterday.
The press conference was arranged to apprise the journalists of achievements the ministry achieved in the previous fiscal and the target of the current financial year.
Providing details of the measures taken by his ministry for the welfare of the disabled people in the last fiscal, he said the government has planned to take 11 more projects. The projects include setting up of technical training centre for the disabled orphans in each division, construction of hostels for the blinds and a residential school for the deaf and dumb.
The minister also said the monthly allowance for the senior citizens is going to be raised from Tk 165 to 180 in the current fiscal and the number of eligible people for the allowance rose to 15 lakh compared to 13.15 lakh in fiscal 2004-05. "The government will spend Tk 324 crore for this," he said.
