One murdered by cousin in Raozan

A man was stabbed to death by his cousin, a convict in a murder case, at Raozan in the district yesterday.

Police arrested one in this connection.

The dead was identified as Meher Uz Zaman, 35, son of Hajee Raja Meah of village Sheikhpara under Pahartali union.

Police said the killing took place at around 8.30am yesterday at village Sheikhpara.

The incident occurred when Meher went to meet Abul Kalam, the alleged killer, and his accomplice Shamsul Alam, at a place to settle a past dispute. One Delwar Hossain called Meher out of his house on behalf of Kalam and Alam, police said.

Kalam and Alam started chopping him with machete and knife as Meher reached the spot. Meher succumbed to his injuries within few minutes, the duty officer of Raozan Police Station said.

Acting on a tip-off, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy.

Police arrested one Delwar, aged about 60, in this connection.

Sources said Kalam is a convict in a murder case. He was awarded life-term imprisonment for the murder but later came out of jail on bail.
