Chittagong District Road Transport Owners' and Workers' Oikya Parishad called for a 48-hour transport strike in all 17 routes in South Chittagong on August 13 and 14 protesting "forceful" and "illegal" plying of vehicles.

The leaders alleged at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club yesterday that the PAB (Patiya-Anwara-Banshkhali) Sarak Paribahan Malik Samity on April 1 introduced some transports of PAB route into Barkal-Boiltali route under Chandanaish without having any route permit.

As the local workers of Oikya Parishad tried to resist the illegal plying of Samity vehicles in Chandanaish that also defied concerned motor-vehicle act, the hired goons of the Samity damaged some five vehicles of the Parishad on August 3, alleged Parishad leaders.

They also started harassing the transport workers and forced some 200 Parishad vehicles plying in three different routes to and from Chandanaish stay off the road, according to Paishad leaders.

The Parishad called upon the authorities concerned to stop illegal plying of vehicles in Chandanaish.
