Hiroshima Day today

UNB, Dhaka
On the 60th anniversary of Hiroshima-Nagasaki Day today, Bangladesh Peace Council yesterday expressed deep respect for the victims and sympathy for their families and survivors of the brutal bomb attacks in 1945.

To mark the day, the Organising Committee for World Conference against Atom and Hydrogen Bombs has arranged elaborate programmes at Hiroshima-Nagasaki in Japan to show respect to the victims and sympathy for those who are still alive.

Peace Council President Ali Aksad and General Secretary Kamal Hyder in a joint statement said "We express our solidarity with the programme and reiterate our demand for banning nuclear weapons and implementation of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)".

They termed the bombing by USA on August 6 at Hiroshima and on August 9 at Nagasaki, just before the end of the World War II in 1945 as the greatest tragedy in the history of mankind. They also wished the world conference a success.
