Acid thrown on woman in Khulna

The victim was identified as Mukta Begum, 24, wife of Taimur Jalal, a sepoy of Bangladesh Army.

The miscreants threw acid on her when she was going to a phone-fax shop to talk to her husband around 9:30pm on Monday. The incident occurred in front of Lal Hospital under Khalishpur Thana when there was no electricity.

People nearby rushed her to a local clinic and later, when her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to Jahanabad Cantonment Hospital.

Altaf Hossain, father of the victim, lodged a FIR yesterday accusing five in the attack. They are Jubo League activist Mohabbat Hossain, BNP activist Ataur Rahman, Shariful, Mostafa Shaikh and Kamrul Islam. He mentioned a dispute with Mohhabat Hossain over a piece of land as the reason behind the attack.

He alleged that the OC of Khalishpur police station at first refused to lodge the FIR and verbally abused him.

A senior officer of Khulna Metropolitan Police, however, said that they trying hard to track down the accused.
