3 brothers to die, two more brothers get life

Judge Md Mahbubur Rahman of the Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court, pronounced the verdict in a crowded court in the Ahikur Rahman Liton murder case.

The convicts with death are - Kazi Mohammad Panna, Kazi Md Anna and Kazi Md Manna, sons of Kazi Md Fakrul Islam of Bejpara in the town. The lifers are Kazi Md Shahin and Kazi Md Tuhin, sons of Kazi Md Fakrul Islam of Bejpara. Their father Kazi Md Fakrul Islam, uncles Kazi Shahidul Islam and Kazi Farhadul Islam were acquitted of the charges.

Court sources said, the accused chopped, hit with brick and cut tendons of Ahikur Rahman Liton, son of Abdur Rashid of Bejpara, Mahfuj Road on June 19, 1998. He succumbed to his injuries at Garib Shah Clinic the following day.

Victim's father Abdur Rashid filed a case with Kotwali Police Station accusing eight people.

After long hearing, the court pronounced the verdict yesterday .

Assistant Public Prosecutor Salah Uddin Swapan and his associates appeared for the state while Advocate Kazi Touhidur Rahman and his associates defended the accused.
