Dhaka to up allocation on health by 10pc every year

Minister tells Tokyo forum

The government has undertaken a plan to increase 10 percent allocation every year from 2005 to 2010 in the Health Nutrition and Population Sector Programme in a bid to boost mobilisation of internal resources to achieve the target of health related indices of millennium development goal (MDG).

Minster for Health and Family Welfare Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said this yesterday while he was presenting a paper on Bangladesh Resources Mobilisation and Sustainability in HNP Sector at a high level forum on Health MDGs in Asia and the Pacific, in Tokyo.

He said Bangladesh has undertaken a number of innovative programmes, including mother health voucher scheme to achieve the MDGs.

Two agencies were formed to intensify the monitoring system of the programme, he said.

Japan in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) organised the meeting.

Earlier, he called on Shin Sakurai, president of Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary League.
