2 get death, one life
District and Sessions Judge Abdul Hamid handed down the capital punishment to Shahi, 29, and Abed Ali, 25, of Garabaria village.
Dukhi, 22, was awarded rigorous imprisonment for life with a fine of Tk 10,000, in default, six months RI.
According to the prosecution, Shahi fell in love with a woman, Shikha of Jatra Party and married her in September 2001. But soon he became disillusioned on Shikha and rejected her.
On June 16, 2002 Shikha went to the village elders of Garabaria seeking justice. As the matter could not be settled that day, Shikha took shelter at night in the house of Harunur Rashid of the same village.
This angered Shahi and he along with his accomplices Abed Ali and Dukhi sneaked into the house of Harunur Rashid. They hacked and shot Harun and his brother-in-law Shariful leaving them badly injured. Harun died in the hospital the following day.
Fathers of the convicts said the judgement was not fair. They will move the higher court against the verdict.
