Budget anti-development: AL

The sub-committee termed the proposed budget as industries- and employment-unfriendly and anti-development.

Member secretary of the committee Col (Retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan, Nazmul Hasan Zahed, A K Azad, Alamgir S Alamin, Khoka Sikdar, Jamil Hasan Durjoy, Nagibul Islam Dipu, K M Zaman, Shyamol Das Titu and Nazibur Rahman took part in the discussion. Chairman of the sub-committee Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed presided.

Criticising continuation of the provision for whitening black money in the proposed budget, they said leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat coalition have been given the scope to whiten black money amassed by corruption and plundering.

They also condemned the decision of imposing Tk 1200 as tax on SIM and its implementation by issuing SRO before the passing of the proposed budget. The meeting demanded withdrawal of duties for the development of telecommunication sector and expansion of trade and business.

The AL sub-committee also emphasised fixing import duty on raw materials below 7.5 per cent and decreasing interest on bank loans.
