Free operation for poor boys, girls with cleft-lips

Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited, under the "Smile-Brighter" programme, arranged operation for the poor boys and girls with cleft-lips free of cost in Bogra recently, says a press release.

The inaugural ceremony of the "Smile Brighter" programme was held at a local hospital. Advocate AKM Mahbubur Rahman, chairman of Bogra municipality, was present as chief guest with Md Yeasin Ali, managing director of the bank, in the chair.

Speakers lauded the Dutch-Bangla Bank initiative and expressed the hope that other corporate citizens of the country will follow the philosophy of the bank. The bank is making every effort to carry out its corporate social responsibilities by way of carrying out diverse philanthropic activities, they said.

Earlier, such programmes were held in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna and Barisal. A good number of poor cleft-lipped boys and girls have been successfully operated in five divisions.

Yeasin Ali, Ziaur Rahman Medical College Principal Prof Dr Abdus Shakur, Prof Dr Moinul Hasan Sadik, Associate Prof Shah Md Shahajahan Ali, Lifeline Hospital Chairman Dr Belal Uddin and Dutch-Bangla Bank Medical Consultant Dr Mozammel Hossain Khan also spoke.
