No election without reforms in caretaker govt: Jalil

"Present government has chosen the path of election engineering to perpetuate power. They're trying to grab power, but they'll not be allowed to assume power this way," he said.

Addressing a triennial conference of Thakurgaon district AL at Natya Samity Hall here, he said that reforms in the caretaker-government system are imperative to thwart the design of the ruling coalition.

"Country's executive and judicial organs have been changed with the appointment of party cadres. DCs, SPs and OCs are not working as government servants. Executive and judicial departments have been ruined," he said.

He said parliament has been made into a party parliament. They (opposition) wanted to discuss various issues, but opposition lawmakers are not given any chance to speak in the House.

"The country has been changed into a country of terrorists, throwing people into insecurity. People are being killed by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) without any trial to hide the godfathers," he said.

AL presidium member Amir Hossain Amu, Organising Secretary Abdul Mannan, former MPs Ramesh Chandra Sen and Emdadul Haque and Dabirul Islam MP also addressed the conference with Thakurgaon District AL convenor Sadek Qureshi in the chair.

Former MP Ramesh Chandra Sen was elected unanimously district AL president and Sadek Qureshi general secretary in voting by councillors during the working session of the conference.
