Two housewives beaten to death for dowry

The victims were identified as Reshma Khatun, 23, wife of Ajgar Ali of village Puijala under Assassuni upazila and Rahima Khatun, 22, wife of Billal Gazi of Bangshipur under Shyamnagar upazila.

Quoting local people, police said, the victim Reshma Khatun, married to Ajgar Ali for seven years, was beaten to death by the husband as her parents failed to pay the dowry he was demanding recently.

In another incident, Rahima Khatun, 22, married to Billal Gazi only six months ago, was beaten mercilessly to death.

Later, Billal, the killer husband, tried to misrepresent the killing as a soicide by pouring poison into her mouth, police and relatives said.
