5 crore saplings to be planted this season

This was decided yesterday at an inter-ministerial meeting to make the Tree Planting Campaign-2005 a success with Environment and Forest Minister Tariqul Islam in the chair.

Addressing the meeting, the minister directed the officials concerned to take steps for planting saplings on empty lands, including government and private, and completing the work of beautification and making Dhaka city green to make the tree planting campaign a success.

The tree planting drive will have to be a success for halting environmental disaster, he said and asked the officials to take care of the planted saplings.

State Minister for Environment and Forest Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury and representatives of different ministries, divisions and organisations attended the meeting.
