Bogra transport workers block highway

Several thousand vehicles got stranded for almost five hours in Bogra yesterday as the truck owners and workers blocked the Bogra-Dhaka highway. PHOTO: STAR

The incident occurred following burning of a truck and torture on its driver in the district.

The truck owners and workers alleged that angry mob burnt a truck and tortured its driver after the truck had run over and killed Tanvir Hasan Raqib, a student of Bogra District School, on May 15 on the Bogra-Dhaka highway.

Truck drivers and workers declared a strike starting from 6:00am to 6:00pm on Wednesday to protest the incident and blocked the Bogra-Dhaka higway for few hours yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, the six-day protest programmes by the people of Bogra was over yesterday.
