RCC engr, his wife, 10 others chargesheeted
RCC engineer Ashraful Alam Mithu and his wife college teacher Luci Begum, along with their accomplices, killed Noor Banu to cover up sexual repression on her, Fayezur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajpara police station, said in the charge sheet.
But police avoided the charge against several other persons, including a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader who helped the killers bury the victim secretly, sources alleged.
Other accused are Mithu's college going son Shisir, Mithu's friend Sonali Bank official Mahbub Zaman, Mithu's brother Merajul, Mahbubul Alam, Akhtaruzzaman, driver Bakul, Bhutto, Obaidul, Zamal and Nayan.
Among the accused, Mithu, Luci and their son Shisir were absconding while others were on bail. Police attached all movable properties of the principal accused persons following a court order.
On the night of September 11 last year, Noor Banu was strangulated to death and her body was set on fire with kerosene to cover up the killing.
The killers on that very night buried her body at Mohisbathan graveyard.
Following the increasingly intense protests by the city people, police filed a case on September 13 and on the following day arranged an autopsy exhuming her body from the grave. The autopsy confirmed that she had been killed.
The charge sheet was secretly submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on April 30 this year, but it was disclosed yesterday when the court summoned for the case document for trial.
