'Bangladesh an illustration of communal harmony'

UNB, Dhaka
President Iajuddin Ahmed yesterday said Bangladesh is a glaring illustration of communal harmony where people of all faiths perform their religious programmes independently.

"The essence of each religion is to do welfare of the mankind. Peace could be ensured in society by establishing religious values among the people," he said when a 25-member delegation of the Sree Sree Sangjo-gnanda and the Shanarananda Giri called on him at Bangabhaban.

Iajuddin said the government is extending cooperation to all religious communities in performing their religious programmes.

Leaders of the delegation said they can perform their respective rituals spontaneously without any restrictions.

They said the government is providing financial support to various religious welfare projects undertaken by the Hindus and other communities.
