Push-in bid by BSF foiled

But in the face of stiff resistance from the members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), Police, Ansar-VDP and hundreds of frontier people, the attempts were foiled, sources said.

According to sources in BDR, police and witnesses, a huge number of BSF troops from New Balupara, Hilli, Bakshiganj camps under Potiram 5 BSF battalion brought 30 Bangla speaking Indians in two groups at 7:30pm on Sunday along these borders.

BSF troops repeatedly attempted to push them into Bangladesh through different points of the four km long borders from pillar no. 283 opposite to Atapara outpost in Joypurhat to pillar no. 288 opposite to Basudebpur outpost in Dinajpur till 5:30am yesterday.

But BDR jawans under Joypurhat 29 rifles battalion, members of police, Ansar-VDP and hundreds of frontier villagers with bamboo sticks and whistles have created stiff resistance and foiled push-in attempts by the BSF.

A painful situation was created as the panic stricken victims raised hue and cry when BSF troops were shifting them from one place to another after failing to push them into Bangladesh.

Later, BSF troops were forced to take the victims away from the bordering areas at around 5:30am yesterday, sources said.
