Strike continues at DU Soil Dept

Classes and other regular activities of the Soil, Water and Environment Department of Dhaka University (DU) remained suspended yesterday as the teachers of the department continued their indefinite strike demanding immediate removal of the chairman Prof Mohammad Khurshid Alam.

Even though there remains controversy among the teachers over the process of the movement, all the teachers demanded immediate removal of the chairman for the greater interests of the students, teachers and all others concerned.

Earlier on Wednesday, the teachers put the rooms of the departmental office and chairman under lock.

The situation worsened when the chairman named a teacher to a newly appointed lecturer saying that that teacher had given 'Note of Decent' against the lecturer's appointment at an Academic Council (AC) meeting on Tuesday.

The chairman, however, could not be reached immediately for comments over the phone despite repeated attempts as of yesterday.
