Govt to carry out overall land reforms: Moudud

"Land reform is being carried out urgently to have a dynamic and time befitting land administration system in the country for greater national interest," he told the inaugural session of a workshop.

The three-day training workshop was organised for District Registrars and Sub-Registrars Dhaka Division at the Judicial Administration and Training Centre auditorium in the city.

State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Barrister Shahjahan Omar also spoke.

Moudud said government has amended some laws such as 1908's Land Registration Law, Specific Relief Act, Limitation Law and the Land Handover Law to meet needs of the hour.

The government has undertaken measures to computerise land administration as part of overall land reform aimed at reducing public harassment as well as bring down cases relating to land disputes, he said.

He said 70 to 80 percent of the cases in the country are land related. The inaugural function was presided over by acting secretary of the Law Ministry Ali Asharaf Khan Lodi.
