Nor'wester lashes three districts

Reports from Panchagarh say three people were killed and two others critically injured by lightning at Tarainhat village under Tentulia upazila

during the nor'wester .

They were identified as Ajgor Ali, 60, and his grand son Naibul, 14. The identity of other victim could not be known immediately.

At least 15 injured were undergoing treatment in Dinajpur Medical College Hospital while another 50 at Panchagarh Sadar Hospital.

About two hundred houses and standing crops on vast areas were badly damaged. Besides, thousands of mango, litchi and other trees were uprooted, sources said.

According to Agriculture Extension Department, the nor'wester damaged about 11,235 hectors of land, but the other sources put the number at 20 thousand hectors in Dinajpur where local met office recorded 29.91 mm of rainfalls.

Power supply was also cut off in the districts during the not'wester.

Some 56 houses and standing crops were damaged in Thakurgaon, sources said.
