40,000 visually impaired children in country

Participants at a workshop yesterday said there are about 40,000 visually impaired children in the country.

Of them, 12,000 can regain sight through cataract surgery and another 12,000 could be prevented, the workshop was told.

Child Sight Foundation (CRF) organised the workshop where noted personalities from home and abroad took part.

The participants brought their experiences from various sectors in the government and non-government sectors and contributed to the workshop.

Viola Corczak, Australian Youth Ambassador for Development and Programme Development Advisor to CSF, conducted the workshop.

Professor M A Matin, MP, Director of Social Welfare Directorate Hafizul Islam Mia, Dr Jobaida Hannan and associate professor of Dhaka University Diba Hossain also spoke.
