JCD activists beat up fellow worker at DU

A group of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists beat up a fellow activist on the Dhaka University (DU) campus yesterday, leaving him seriously injured.

Didar Hossain Shuvo, a student of Islamic studies department, was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with severe injures after the activists of Zahurul Haque Hall JCD attacked him. Later, he was shifted to Orthopaedic Hospital.

Campus sources said Shuvo is an accused in the JCD activist Mahbubul Islam Khokon murder case. Khokon, a MSS student of political science, died three days after he was beaten up by a group of JCD activists on September 14 last year.

Sources said Shuvo came to the campus to sit for the honours final examination at around 1:00pm. But a group of JCD activists, including Mustak and Babu, grabbed him near the back entrance of the arts faculty and took him to the Zahurul Haque Hall where they hit him with bricks and sticks.

Hall students said provost of the hall Prof Zahidul Islam rescued Shuvo and sent him to the hospital.

Tension was running high among the JCD activists of the hall as the university authorities did not take any action against the accused in Khokon murder case. Khokon was the resident student of the same hall.
