1 gets life for raping child

Judge Md Nurul Islam of Chittagong Woman and Child Repression Control Tribunal-3 handed the punishment to Ujjal Shil, 22, the lone accused, for raping a Class-1 student of Parigram village under Patiya upazila of the district on July 13.

According to prosecution, Ujjal took the girl on the rooftop of his building and violated her at around 12.30pm.

The victim fell seriously sick following profuse bleeding and was admitted to a hospital.

Her mother filed a case with the Patiya Police Station accusing Ujjal.

Sub Inspector Abdur Rab pressed the chargesheet and sent the case to Tribunal-3. Nine prosecution witnesses were cross-examined during the trial.

Public Prosecutor Advocate Abdus Sattar and Advocate Tushar Chanda defended the plaintiff while human rights lawyers Zia Habib Ahsan, Sharif Uddin and Sunil Sarker assisted them.

Advocate Abdus Salam Anwari took the defendant's side.
