One to die, 3 get life

The convict with death is Omar Faruq Arif while Mahbubur Rahaman alias Jewel, Kajal Morol and Masud were given life in jail for killing Anisur Rahman.

Judge Mohammad Firoz Alam of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 handed down the verdict at 1:00pm at a jam-packed courtroom.

Of the convicts, Masud was present in the dock during the delivery of the verdict while the three others were tried in absentia

The convict with death can appeal to the High Court against the verdict within 30 days and the punishment of the fugitives will be effective from the date of their arrest or surrender, the court said.

Later, a murder case was filed against Arif and three others the next day and the investigation officer pressed charges against them on January 17 last year.
