Kushtia sadar SI of police sued for illegal arrest

Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) on Thursday filed a case against a sub-inspector (SI) of Kushtia sadar police with a magistrate's court for alleged illegal arrest of two persons.

The magistrate ordered the police super to take legal action on the matter after necessary inquiry.

According to complainant, SI Masiur Rahman arrested one Bachchu, 18, of Mangolbaria area of the town, on Monday evening after one Abdul Latif lodged an allegation against him for demanding toll.

The police held Bachchu at thana custody till Thursday 3:00pm when his father Abdul Aziz went to police station to know the reason of the arrest of his son. At this, police also held Aziz.

On information, Aadvocate Zohurul Islam, vice-president of BLAST and former secretary of local bar association, filed a case against the SI.

Hearing about the case, police swiftly sent the father and son to court on the same afternoon, said Advocate Zohurul.

The court has sent them to jail.

When contacted, Police Super Sahabuddin Khan said they were looking into the matter.
