Patients suffer as OMC interns continue strike

Sufferings of the patients mounted as the interns of the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College (OMC) continued their strike for the second day yesterday.

About 20 patients left the hospital yesterday, sources said.

Meanwhile, the interns at a press conference in the afternoon said that they would continue their work stoppage as the authorities are yet to take any measure to meet their demands. The demands include immediate withdrawal of the Deputy Director of the Hospital, strengthening the security arrangement in the hospital, proper probe and filing of case by the hospital authorities for the Tuesday night's attack and threats on the interns. A 9-member emergency squad has been formed to serve the emergency patients, they said.

The Intern Chikithsak Parishad was holding a meeting with the hospital authorities till filing of this report at 6.00pm. They also held a meeting with the Sylhet BMA yesterday.
