New boundary pillars to be set up

Officials said the two sides reached the accord after a three-day Bangladesh-India joint border survey in Tentulia and Sadar Upazilas that concluded here on Sunday.

"Now Bangladesh and India are conducting survey to resolve the disputes. After finalising the survey report, construction and repairing of border pillars will start," the joint team said.

An eight-member survey team composed of members from the two countries carried out the survey on the frontier-river Mohananda in Tentulia and Korotoa in Sadar Uapzila since Friday.

Director of Survey of India GC Boiragi led a four-member Indian delegation while the Bangladesh team of an equal strength led by Director General of Land Record and Survey Mohammad Abu Haider Sarder.

The boundary survey was undertaken following recent clashes between the border forces over fencing the frontier by India and river-protection dam construction on Bangladesh side.
