'Make Pay Commission Report Public'

Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club, they also called for incorporating parishad representatives in the pay commission body for discussions and bargaining their demands.

The leaders said in a democratic country like Bangladesh, representatives of the government and stakeholders should be included in the pay commission to endorse and approve any pay scale, but it is quite disappointing that no- one from the parishad was included in the body.

Parishad President Sultan Alam Mallik, in a written statement, also highlighted their eight-point demand that included fixation of minimum wage at Tk 6,000.

He also demanded fixation of pension, gratuity and allowances as per their memorandum to the government.

Mallik urged the government to implement the new pay scale from the date of the formation of the pay commission.

He called for transferring the service of the employees appointed on contract basis to revenue budget, raising the retirement age at 60, and allocating two festival bonuses for retired employees.

"To realise our demands and build public opinion in our favour, we have decided to hold rallies at district and divisional headquarters until April 20," said Mallik.

The central committee leaders would announce their next action programme on April 21, he added.
