New technology for weed control in rice

Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) has developed new technology for weed control in rice.

Speakers at a workshop focused on the newly developed herbicide system and stressed the need for considering new strategy for its proper utilisation. they claimed the new system to be less expensive than the traditional hand weeding.

The daylong workshop on ' Planing for dissemination of effective and economic weed management systems for lowland rice in Bangladesh ' was held at BIRDEM centre conference room in Comilla recently.

Organised by the Cost-effective Weed Management Project of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), the event was presided over by Dr. Gazi Jashimuddin Ahamed, head of the BRRI Agronomy Division.

Dr. Nazira Quaraishi, director (Research) in-charge of BRRI, was the chief guest of the workshop. Over a hundred representatives, including specialistsfrom different sectors, took part at the workshop.
