Businessman shot dead near court

Slain Nazrul Islam, a resident of Shahara Bazar of Badda, was owner of an automobile parts shop at Mirpur 2.

Some unidentified men shot point-blank at Nazrul in the head, shoulder and stomach in front of a shop at 26 Court House Street adjacent to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court at around 4:15pm, according to sources. Nazrul, 26, died on the spot.

The miscreants vanished into the crowd of the busy street after shooting the businessman, local people said.

Kotwali police could not give any details about the killing until late in the evening.

With the killing of Nazrul, the number of murders in court area rose to five including one killed inside the court premises in 2000.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Morshed was killed near the court area in 1995, Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Azad in 1999, and BNP leader Anu in 2003, while Jubo League leader "Murgi" Milon was shot on the court premises in 2000.
