DU students continue protest against bomb attack

On the other hand, police are yet to nab anyone in connection with the blasts that left 16 people, including 12 students, injured.

Intelligence agencies have been on the hunt for the culprits responsible for the blasts in different parts of the city, said an official requesting anonymity.

Demanding immediate arrest of the attackers, students under the banner of 'General Students' yesterday observed a token hunger strike near the Swaparjita Swadhinata, the place where three bombs went off.

The Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) also arranged a debate programme in protest against the bomb attack.

Six opposition-backed student organisations, including the BCL, brought out a procession and held a rally at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla and blamed the Islamic Chhatra Shibir, student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, for the bomb blasts.

Addressing the rally, the leaders demanded arrest and punishment of the Shibir men.

They also said the fundamentalist groups protected by the government carried out the attack on the Valentine's Day crowd as they were opposing the programme.

The leaders also threatened to launch a tougher programme, including indefinite student strike at all the educational institutions, if the ruling BNP's student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatara Dal (JCD) carry out further attack on their leaders and activists.

Meanwhile, no classes were held at DU in the last two days due to a strike enforced by the six opposition-backed organisations.

BCL President Liaqat Sikder, General Secretary Nazrul Islam Babu, Ali Hasan Tarun, Rafiqul Islam Sujon spoke at the rally.
