Mystery shrouds death of female doctor

Family sources said Dr Akter Jahan Mirza, 50, a gynaecologist and former director of City Dental College at Malibagh Choudhurypara, was found dead at her West Malibagh residence at about 5:00am yesterday.

On information, Akter's brother Mirza Masud came to her residence and found her body lying on the floor. But Masud sensed some foul play and suspected that his sister was murdered by her former husband Dr A S M Badruddoza, who is project director of the dental college of Jahan was a co-owner.

Masud hurried to lodge a general diary with poilce, accusing Badruddoza of murdering his sister.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

"I know of many incidents of physical and mental abuses my sister had tolerated as Badruddoza's wife. He used to beat her and finally he got separated two and a half years ago and married again," Masud told journalists on the hospital morgue premises.
