Maintain transparency in service-oriented activities

"Those who are involved with the organisation are meant to provide service, not to gain any benefits from it," she said.

Khaleda said this when a 15-member delegation of the BDRCS Managing Board led by its newly appointed Chairman Harun Al Rashid, MP called on her at her office in the afternoon.

She asked the BDRCS to set its priorities, including pre-disaster programmes, and spread its health activities to the grassroots level.

She said Bangladesh, which is prone to natural disasters like flood, cyclone and earthquakes, is also not outside the risk of disaster like tsunami.

The prime pinister told the delegation to build up image of the organisation through hard work and sincerity, which would encourage others to come forward and support it.

She also hoped that the Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College would maintain highest standard in grooming up doctors.

The delegation members briefed the Prime Minister regarding the Society's activities, including health programmes against HIV/Aids, cyclone warning and post-disaster rehabilitation works.

Nearly 33,000 volunteers are involved with the BDRCS in coastal areas while 160,000 youths of Youth Red Crescent Society support the organisation's activities.

PM's political secretary Harris Chowdhury was present on the occasion.
