Shahid protests Speaker's statement

He also alleged that the Speaker made a 'false statement' to cover up the fact.

Speaker Jamir Uddin Sircar at a press briefing on Sunday said that he had a telephone conversation with the opposition chief whip on January 28.

"The fact is the Speaker did not talk with me on that day. He is misleading the people with this false statement," Abdus Shahid said in a statement.

The opposition chief whip also said the Speaker himself admitted that he was not aware of the killing of Kibria in the grenade attack on January 27 and came to know about it from the newspaper the following day.

Such a statement is unfortunate for the nation and it proves that the Speaker has failed to discharge his responsibility as guardian of parliament, Shahid said.
