Husband kills wife for dowry

The victim was identified as Noor Begum, 28, mother of four children, and wife of one Nabi Hossain.

Police said the incident occurred when Noor refused to oblige her husband who was insisting for money as dowry.

Being infuriated, Nabi brought a machete from the kitchen and chopped her indiscriminately. She died on the spot.

Afterwards, Nabi tried in vain to commit suicide by taking poison.

Police arrested him yesterday.
