Six opposition-backed student organisations, including Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), staged a demonstration on the Dhaka University (DU) campus yesterday demanding immediate arrest of infamous militant leader Bangla Bhai.

They also threatened to launch a tough movement if the government fails to arrest the self-styled leader of Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB).

The six student bodies under the banner of Anti-communalism & Anti-terrorism Alliance took out a procession and held a rally in front of the Aparajeyo Bangla. They also burned an effigy of Bangla Bhai.

Addressing the rally, the student leaders said the inaction of the government has encouraged the rise of extremist groups like JMJB.

They also accused the government of fanning communal tension in the country.

The leaders called on the students to launch a mass campaign against the government to safeguard the people and the country from the clutches of the fanatics.

Presided over by BCL President Liakat Sikder, the rally was addressed Shariful Kabir Swapan, Ali Hasan Tarun, Khan Mainul Islam Mostak and Delwar Hossain.
