Dhaka rushes aid for tsunami victims despite constraints
He said this while he was speaking at a Special Session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday to discuss ways and means for mitigating consequences of the natural calamity.
Chowdhury said Bangladesh has often been the victim of natural disasters, but the determination and resilience of the Bangladeshi people backed by well-formulated government programmes have enhanced their capacity to face such crisis.
He also said Bangladesh's pluralism and democratic institutions also helped public authorities rendering more responsible and accountable services.
He said Bangladesh would be happy to share its experiences with other affected countries.
He called for continued UN involvement in assisting disaster-prone countries with funds and assistance.
