Holcim donation for tsunami-hit people

Holcim, the world's leading suppliers of cement, aggregates (gravel and sand), concrete and construction-related services, will donate three million Swiss francs for the tsunami-hit people of Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia, says a press release.

The francs from Switzerland will be paid to group company funds set up in these countries in a concerted effort to relieve sufferings and rebuild devastated coastal areas.

Immediately after the catastrophe struck, crisis teams formed by Holcim Group companies began helping local aid efforts. The group companies supplied drinking water, set up sanitation facilities and distributed clothes, tents and food in tsunami-hit areas.

Fund representatives, in collaboration with the authorities and partner organisations, will also evaluate and provide financial support to local projects mainly on rebuilding schools, hospitals and homes.
