One to die, six get life term

Additional District and Sessions Judge SM Mujibur Rahman delivered the judgment in the sensational case awarding death penalty to Delwar Hossain who remained fugitive.

The court also awarded life term to six other co-accused -- Habibur Rahman, Kamaluddin alias Pichhi Kamal, Bazlur Rahman, Dulal Mia, Firoz Mia and Momen. They were also fined Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more RI.

According to the prosecution, the convicts entered the Badiul Alam College at Muradnagar on August 9 in 2001 when principal Syed Hafizuddin was holding a meeting with his colleagues at 2.00pm. They picked up a quarrel with the principal and at one stage shot him in his breast. He died on way to hospital.

Of the lifers, Habibur Rahman and Kamaluddin alias Pichhi Kamal were in the dock while Bazlur Rahman, Dulal Mia, Firoz Mia and Momen absconding.
